While sprinting around the forest I happened upon the greatest deer ability of all, flight.

To achieve flight as a deer one must prepare one’s self for such an amazing feat, then follow these simple steps.

First: Find a suitable hill for jumping off of. Any hill will due.
Second: Back up far away from the hill. One must have suitable sprinting distance.
Third: Sprint directly at the hill, jumping as you do so. One must jump many times.
Fourth: Fly, continue hopping in mid air for longer flights. Be sure to watch out for branches.
Fifth: Prepare for fall.

Haha. Yep. That should work. Smile
The reason for this is that gravity is turned off during a jump and only turned on again after. But, indeed, when you keep jumping, gravity keeps being turn off.
I managed to have my deer walk on water with this method in the new area that we're developing for Phase Two. Smile

Walking on water? This is the exact application that I was hoping for. After finding this I had to decide to either:

Post.
Fly over other deer, hopefully causing fear.
Wait till water and amaze others with water walking skills.

I have very little patience, and no one else was on. My decision was made for me.

Haha.

Well as long as everyone doesn't start flying all the time, I'm sure we can leave this "feature" in. I love emergent gameplay. Smile
(but it shouldn't interfere with the general atmosphere; and given the magic that will be introduced in Phase Two, flying should be ok Wink )

I'm still somewhat regretting not keeping this to myself. It would have been fun to be the only flying deer.

Guess I'll have just have to live as the first deer to fly. This also makes deer the fifth creature in the forest to fly, if I count correctly. Now the poor squirrels are the only critter without flight.

Flying is excellent fun! I just flew round the ruins and stood on top! Well I didn't quite stand, more like hovered but it was great fun anyway! Thanks for telling us! I bet that if we get predators at any point that might be a good way of escaping if you don't want scars.

I have found you can also sleep while flying. You need a joystick though. I will be sleep-flying tonight! Wink

How do you do this act of sleep flying? And isn't it a bit more dangerous?

Haha. Hm... I'd have to check but it is possible that gravity is turned off when sleeping (for the sake of performance). Congratulations! Smile

It's the best "easter egg" (as I like to call it) in this game! I started from the Statue of tears, and flew over the gorge all the way to the pond! I felt just like a Grimm version of Flying Reindeer.

Out of curiosity, do other players see you fly? I've never spotted a flying deer, and am wondering how it appears to us poor ground-pounders. (I've never quite gotten the knack of staying airborne Embarassed )

Yes, it's just that usually you're out of their line-of-sight/camera. Razz If you play with your camera zoomed out all the way, you're far more likely to see someone doing it.
